Intel are getting in on the Tablet game

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Hold off on that tablet purchase cause Intel are getting in on the tablet game. There CEO says that the are porting android to the x86 Intel chips, so that could mean that every notebook/tablet that currently has Intel chip may have a in the next generation of chips may have a been tailored for tablets. Currently ARM rules the roost in terms of Chips, What does this mean for us the consumer…. Cheaper tablets hopefully.

WiFi connected refrigerator for around $300 versus $3499

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Samsung is about to launch a network fridge its a WiFi connected refrigerator with LED lighting and 28 cubic feet of storage. its priced at a suggested $3,499 retail price. But I’m starting to think that an android tablet at €300 stuck on to the front of the fridge would give you the same, in terms of functionality, and propbably alot cheaper.

I suppose some one has to buy shiny chrome!

Cisco to Flip off

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Cisco has killed off its flip Camera, Blaming the fall off in consumer demand, and people having cameras in there mobile phones. When I saw that they acquired this technology a few years ago, it seemed a road that was not compatible with where Cisco was going, Which was networks or to be correct core routing, switching and services, collaboration, and architecture. So I’m not surprised, I’m sorry for the people working there, Cisco is getting rid of 550 people, so it sounds that they put some back bone into this.

Commodore 64 on the way back.

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Commodore 64 maybe on its way back. For the people that remember the C64, it was a great little machine, now it may come back as a an Intel Atom-powered PC featuring 4GB DDR3 memory, SATA 1TB HDD, HDMI output, optical drive (either DVD/CD or optional Blu-ray). I wonder if it will have a “Ready:” prompt! or a tape loading screen when it has to load a program. I do hope that it doesn’t suffer from any tape alignment issues, when you would spend all your day loading a game, just for it to conk out at the end. I wonder if there will be a an Action replay cartridge made for it so that i can go machine coding again!? The OS is going to be Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, hopefully some one will change the prompt to “Ready”

All these questions!!!

Do Batteries last

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

So do batteries last? anyone that has owned a mobile phone in the last while, will say that they don’t. Although my relationship with my current E71 battery is still a long lasting one, I can still get 2 days out if it after almost 2 years. But it looks like the Toyota Priuses 10 year old batteries are still good according to AOL autos so we could be on to something here with the electric cars. With Ford’s 100 mile electric range car looking to launch soon, maybe it could be worth thinking about changing from a oil burner to a electric car, for regular commutes. And before some one says “it won’t go from Cork to Dublin on a charge” well I think that these are going to be second cars not the big car.

Skype Booths

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Skype are looking like they are turning into a telecoms provider more and more, they have now created a Skype booth, its being previewed in Estonia in the Airport in Tallinn. It seems a pretty good idea in my book. But I wonder about the back end, as the Peer to Peer tech that they use, can have interruptions. So I wonder what happens if you put your money in, an Skype’s call could possibly drop. Do you get a refund, or what? I’m sure all these questions will be answered.

there is a better link here about the skype booth

Nintendo 3DS “Black Screen of Death,”

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Reports are filling the blog world that allegedly there is a “Black Screen of Death,” occurring on the 3DS where the system has to be rebooted to get over the issue. I don’t own one of these, but in case anyone has hit it, here’s some links, That might be of use.

Nothing is on the Nintendo site regarding this issue, so it may not be correct and it could be user error but if your looking to update your system, Nintendo gives the following link.

Fast charging batteries

Friday, March 25th, 2011

New batteries developed at the University of Illinois, appear to have solved the issue with charging batteries, instead of taking hours, they seem to have got it down to minutes. Again this is all early testing, so it may never go in to production, But it could give electric cars the recharging boost that they need, and take us away from Oil. Firefox 4 just released

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Mozilla has just released FireFox 4, its all new and improved, but I’m waiting to 4.01 to see how works. I am curious about how it controls memory management, as FireFox 3 used have a lot of memory leaks, which was painful, if you were on a low powered machine, Even if you had all the plug-ins removed.

For the early adopters out there, heres the link for it.

don’t believe me about the memory usage FireFox 3 then have a look here:
