the man who helped take the barcode into the supermarket Alan Haberman died today, So I think Tesco and Walmart should have a 1 minute pause for what he’s done at the checkouts. having programmed some barcode apps, they are the great to work with, good work sir!

ultrasonic pen / light sabre

Qualcomm’s ultrasonic pen demo transcribes from paper to device, now we have seen this type of thing before from livescribe where there is a micro dot camera used to identify a location on the page. That system uses, a special printed paper with tiny dots with codes on the paper, I’ve seen it in operation and it works well. The Qualcomm system seems to be different in that it uses triangulation with ultrasonic sensors to see where the pen is in the real world, or on the sheet of paper. I don’t think they will be any requirement for special paper.

FYI Cell phones/electromagnetic fields are dangerous

A group of 31 scientists from 14 countries working in the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer says that — based on a survey of the literature — those electromagnetic fields are as likely to be potentially carcinogenic as 266 other worrisome substances.

They’ll probably be another survey out next week to say that they are safe!
